Early positions generally need stronger hands because more players can respond. On the button, you also have position after the flop. The small blind remains out of position, so this example uses a tighter set than the button.
Read the chart in context.
The percentage counts actual card combinations (6 for a pair, 4 suited, 12 offsuit) out of 1,326 possible starting hands—not the fraction of coloured squares.
There is no big-blind first-in chart: if everyone, including the small blind, folds, the big blind wins the pot without taking an opening action. Different charts are needed against limps or raises.
